The STCA announced the 2020 scholarship Winners

 

On August 16, 2020, The ST Culture Advocacy announced the 2020 Scholarship winners:
First Place Winner: Cady Mariano, $1000
Second  Place Winner: Ellen Wrightsman $800

 

 

 About the winners: 

Cady Mariano, First Class winner
Cady Mariano grew up on stage, she started performing ballet at age 3. She performed dancing/singing since age 8 for San Diego International Kids Film Festival and Universe Multicultural Film Festival. She earned the 2nd place at Triple Threat Contest at San Diego County Fair at age 12, and performed professionally at Old Globe Theatre for “How the Grinch stole Christmas” at age 12. Since then, Cady has auditions regularly in LA, and has done short films, commercials, and voiceover professionally in LA.
Meanwhile, Cady has utilized her talent to perform at many charity fundraisers. She also chartered and led the San Diego United Leo Club to do many volunteer events such as helping the homeless and low income families since she was 9. She has earned national awards such as “David Chow Humanitarian Award” at age 14, and “Freedoms Foundation National Awards” at age 16.
Cady is the youth ambassador of San Diego International Kids’ film festival from 2013-2019, she is attending  the University of Southern California this fall and is going to major in theater and minor in film.
Ellen Wrightsman, Second Class Winner
Ellen immigrated to the USA from China when she was 14 years old. She graduated Rowland High School in 2020 with honors – including the President’s Award for Educational Excellence. She is attending the class of 2024 at the University of California – San Diego (UCSD), majoring in Biology.
During high school, Ellen participated in numerous extracurricular activities. Among them was as:
• a volunteer with the International Kid’s Film Festival, and Universe Multicultural Film Festival
• a volunteer at Killian Elementary school as a teacher’s aid for Chinese-American children.
• founder of the American Sign Language (ASL) Club for which she became its first president
Ellen’s goal is to have a career in a field specializing in bio-chemical and medical science services. She loves music, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
